FEDORA Digital Prize Winner 2023: The Sound Voice Project at the ITEAC 2023

On 19 and 20 September 2023, Hannah Conway, co-founder and director of Sound Voice, had the great opportunity to present her project at the ITEAC 2023 - International Theatre Engineering & Architecture Conference. Winner of the FEDORA Digital Prize 2023, The Sound Voice Project is a transdisciplinary performance project exploring voice loss and identity by bringing together composers, artists, health professionals and people with lived experience of voice loss.

During the session entitled “Digital Revolution”, Hannah Conway, alongside Kate Bailey, Senior Curator at Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Toby Coffey, Head of Digital Development at the Royal National Theatre in London, Marcus Lobbes, Director of the Akademie für Theatre und Digitalität at the Theater Dortmund and Ryan Metcalfe, Founder and Managing Director of Preevue Ltd, dealt with the challenges posed by the digital transformation of the sector. Does digital theatre affect the live connection between actors and their audience? Or does it represent many new exciting opportunities for the sector such as reaching wider audiences with live-streams or opening new spaces for performance with virtual reality?

The Sound Voice Project is a great example of what digital can actually mean for the sector, by showing the dynamic integration of voices from across the globe in an ever-changing and evolving work of art.
